Custom Metadata has received some exciting updates in Scrivener 3, namely new value types. In addition to Text fields, you can now create Checkbox, List, and Date types.

- Text fields let you type freeform text values.
- Checkbox allows you to select or deselect a, um, checkbox. Basically, this is for yes/no, on/off, binary responses (e.g., ✅ Edits Done?)
- List fields will only accept values from the list you create when you add the field. This is handy if you want to use the field for search criteria later to ensure you don’t mistype something.
- Date fields allow you to add a standardized date and/or time format, which again makes data entry and searching easier.
Custom Metadata fields appear in the Project Search options, and as options for columns in the Outliner.
